Rawlance Ndejjo is one of nearly 10,000 learners from 178 countries enrolled in the Community Health Academy’s first leadership course, Strengthening Community Health Worker Programs to Deliver Primary Health Care, co-produced with edX and HarvardX. Though he has worked to implement community health worker programs at both the district and national levels in Uganda, Rawlance has had limited exposure to best practices on effective program design and execution. A researcher at Makerere University School of Public Health, Rawlance was eager for the opportunity to learn from the diverse faculty and global community of learners engaged in the Academy leadership course.
The course has helped Rawlance develop a deeper understanding of community health worker support systems including the importance of training and incentivization – lessons he is already adapting at work. He hopes the best practices he is gaining in the course will equip him to better aid in the delivery of community health worker interventions and advance Uganda’s community health system.
“Everybody should be able to live a long, healthy, and productive life. This course will help me realize this goal for everyone, especially the most vulnerable,” explains Rawlance.
