How can we accelerate innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing problems? Each April, we are honored to join partners, social entrepreneurs, and inspirational leaders at Skoll World Forum to explore opportunities to drive enduring change.
This year, Last Mile Health was represented at Skoll World Forum by Lisha McCormick, James Nardella, Abraham Zerihun Megentta, and Delia Burnett. We were energized by the conversations and sessions we attended, and grateful for the opportunity to gather implementing partners for Project BIRCH.
We also shared lessons we’ve learned building strong community health programs alongside governments and funding partners at several events exploring the systems that enable change at scale.
“Is bigger always better?”: A conversation about big-bet philanthropy
James Nardella, Last Mile Health’s Chief Program Officer, joined doers and donors for a panel discussion on big-bet funding, hosted by Educate Girls. James shared our experience implementing big-bet investments and the essential growth it enabled. He highlighted the need for continued investment after a big-bet investment ends, as well as the vital importance of long-termism for social change.

“Gender equity in philanthropy: How and why considering gender can unlock impact in every issue area”
Lisha McCormick, Last Mile Health’s Chief Executive Officer, participated in this conversation hosted by The Bridgespan Group and Skoll Foundation. Lisha highlighted our ongoing work to improve gender equity in Liberia’s professional community health workforce and shared lessons learned via our Clinton Global Initiative commitment with Integrate Health.
“Scaling health solutions nationally: Insights from non-profit, government, and philanthropy partnerships
Lisha offered insight into our partnership with Liberia’s Ministry of Health to improve and increase funding flows for the national community health worker program, at this Skoll sidelines event co-convened by LGT Venture Philanthropy and Co-Impact.
Closing plenary
Peter Sands (Executive Director, The Global Fund) and Raj Panjabi (Last Mile Health co-founder and Skoll Foundation board member) brought global health to center stage at the Skoll World Forum closing plenary. They discussed Global Fund’s work to save millions of lives around the world with partners like Africa Frontline First, a collaborative, Africa-led initiative from the Financing Alliance for Health, the Community Health Impact Coalition, and Last Mile Health.
“What I can guarantee is a return in lives saved and a return in the better health of communities, particularly the communities which are the poorest and most marginalized in the world. We have to do that and we have to do that absolutely consistently.” – Peter Sands
