Last Mile Health is honored to announce the creation of the Eliza Forrest Kaye Bromfield Leadership & Development Fund, recognizing the life and legacy of Eliza Forrest Kaye Bromfield, who passed away unexpectedly in July 2018 at the age of 30 from complications of acute hyponatremia.
Eliza committed her life to improving the world around her, focusing her career on universal access to healthcare, nursing education, and veteran’s healthcare.
Recalling her sister’s work to promote social justice, Amelia Forrest Kaye notes that Eliza’s altruism was rooted in her deep curiosity about other people and other cultures, and her desire to make the world a more inclusive place. Adding, “Eliza was influenced by her personal experience with the US healthcare system. She used her career in philanthropy to help provide training for healthcare providers, especially those responding to the needs of under-served populations.”
Eliza’s work inspired the Forrest Kaye family and Eliza’s husband, Dan Bromfield, to establish the Eliza Forrest Kaye Bromfield Leadership & Development Fund at Last Mile Health. Fundamental to this investment is the shared dedication to advance the learning and development of the health workforce. Last Mile Health’s People Operations team, which manages the organization-wide learning and development program, will leverage the Fund to provide opportunities for clinical staff and service providers to receive professional development training, participate in continuing education through and beyond the organization’s Community Health Academy, and pursue university-based fellowship opportunities such as the Women in Global Health LEAD Fellowship through the Harvard School of Public Health and the HEAL Initiative through the University of California San Francisco Medical School.
Eliza’s legacy will live on through those who benefit from this investment in training and education, both in their increased competencies, but also through the multiplier effect these individuals will have on healthcare systems and the people they serve in the US and abroad. Amelia said, “Eliza would have taken great satisfaction in knowing that the individuals who are chosen for this scholarship will be advancing the delivery of quality healthcare worldwide.”
